TDP 3.3 is running schedules twice. Running 3.3.0.1543 on XP. If I run interavtively in TDP it runs just once. Did not have issue with 3.2.

Debbie, if you could try that suggestion I had a bit earlier regarding changing the task just a bit, like the name from or to and re-saving, then rerunning the task, I’d love to see if you run into any issues there.

Thanks again. Chad

Chad,

I’m running on a Win 7, 64-bit machine with Data Point 3.3 and .Net 4.5. I have three tasks running daily with output to excel spreadsheets. I double checked the last 30 days and have never had my tasks run twice. If we can discover what the difference is, perhaps we can resolve your issue.

Mine is a 32 bit Win 7 machine, that’s one difference, but dont think that’s the issue. If your process goes to spreadsheets, then it very well would be hard to see if they ran twice, because it would just override itself. What I’ve found is that when I make changes to a task, whether it’s make additions or modifications to it, this is when it runs twice. The easiest thing to note to show that it runs twice is emails, because you’ll literally receive two emails. I find it interesting others are having this issue and thats why I was hoping that someone would test making modifications or setting up new tasks to see if they do this going forward. Other than this, I’m not sure what to do but to possibly call support to set up a ticket regarding this for further investigation. As I’ve stated previously, the automation is the sole reason we purchased the product, and if its not resolved, we’re not sure how will be able to effectively use this product on the multitude of tasks that we are trying to run on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

Chad

I have the date and time appended to the name of the spreadsheet so it doesn’t overlay. In the Windows task scheduler, I can see when and how may times it runs. We also purchased this product for the sole reason of automation. I was running a trial version of 3.2 and had no problems and when we purchased 3.3 is when all my troubles started. I did have to put .Net 4.5 on before I could get it running right and I still have some issues but I 'm able to work around them for now. I haven’t ever had a scheduled task run twice. Hope you find a solution. Linda

Linda, sounds like you do not have the running twice issue. But you do mention this --> "and I still have some issues " In another thread I would be happy to go over any other issues you are encountering.

Debbie

I think I may have found the solution and cause to the problem. I’m hoping I can get others to test and see if they experience the same issue and the correction of it or not. Essentially, it appears that when I leave the automation task up on toad, and while it’s still present as a tab, then exit the application, this is where the “doubling” of the task takes place. I notice each time I leave it up and exit the data point application it runs twice. Now when I shut the automated task tab down, then exit the toad data point application, then the task scheduler only runs once. This could very well be why I see it on both Win 7 and Server 2008 Operating systems. I’m interested to see if others are having the same issue and if this corrects for them. If so, I think I’ll just have to make a general note to shut down the automation task in the toad application before exiting. I’ll let everyone know if I see anything different than this, but this seems to be exactly the problem at solution I’m dealing with at the moment.

Chad

Chad, I have been busy and have not been able to get back to this issue. This post rings another bell. I notice in the last two releases there is a desktop option set that remembers the last windows that were used and opens them again when starting up Toad. Can you check to see if this option is set in your environment? This is an incorrect default and is currently scheduled to be handled.

Debbie

Thanks Debbie. I worked with Quest/Dell Support. One issue has been sent to Dev to add to the next upgrade. I’ll start a thread for the other one.

Yup Debbie, great point. I did have that set to the default of “open documents”. I’ve since unchecked this so that it shuts down all documents at the next startup. This very well should be a great way to make sure they are closed at shutdown, so I dont even have to think about it. I’ve already tested this and left the task up and shut down and it does appear to only run once on the task since the task is no longer active on the datapoint application at shutdown. I’d love to see if you or any others can recreate the issue and see if that resolves it. If so, I’m glad that this is figured out and that I can move foward with setting up more automated tasks through the scheduler.

Chad

I will definitely check this today and get back with you.

Okay, I checked this out. Most definitely this is the issue. I can recreate the double run of the scheduled script if the Desktop option is set to save open docs and one of the open docs is the script being scheduled. If I turn off the desktop option the script only runs once.

Wow, that was a weird one. I entered a task to change the default option of the desktop as that is wrong in the first place.

So solution to scripts running twice is to turn off this desktop option.

Thanks for hanging in there.

Debbie

Thanks all! Resolved my issue!
