Hi!
I can’t find the ‘analyze table’ icon. And if I select table and do the ‘ctrl+F10+N’ trick - as suggested in HELP, I get the ‘Notes’ window.
Any advice?
Thanks!
M

I’m sorry, but in this case the Help has incorrect information. To analyze a table in Toad for Data Analysis, you would need to go to an Editor window and type in the .SQL command. Would you be interested in an enhancement request to allow tables to be analyzed using a button or a menu command?
P.S. Which RDBMS are you using?
Analyzing a table usually is a DBA task. Is this something you do often? And on what platform? Oracle, DB2?
Also, can you briefly share how you are using Toad for Data Analyst? IE: Creating reports from Ad hoc requests. Importing data from warehouse and querying on local tables. ETC. This helps us to understand your use case and request.

Hello!
Thank you for this. I solved my problem ‘old school’ style anyway. I was just a bit surprised that I could not do, nor find, what Help suggested. I added a doc with help print-screen to this post. I just got my TOAD we are in ‘getting-to-know-eachother’ phase right now.
If there was a button or a menu command as planed (I guess ) - it would certainly be a nice feature.
There were a couple of other things regarding tables that are described in Help and I could not find them in my TOAD - like Check tables.
We are using Oracle 10g.
analyze tables.doc (74 KB)
Hi!
As I mentioned before, we’re using Oracle (10g) platform.
I use TOAD mainly for creating tables, and then preforming all sorts of queries on them. I need to analyze created table, because statistics are not calculated by default - and just by analzing them - all my later actions (queries) are sooooooo much faster.
There is another thing. I have TOAD for a month or so now, and sometimes it just closes. It happend three times in a month - last was yesterday. It closed without any ‘Do you want to save changes?’ or ‘Do you want to commit changes?’ - nothing. It just disappeard. I had about 5 editors opend - something saved, but not all. I know about shift+F8 (recall sql statement window), but I had written comments and some SQLs which I didn’t run jet as well, and they were all gone. It took me quite some time to rewrite.
Is this closeing thing a ‘bug’ and does it happen often? Anybody else reported it?
Thanks,
M
Hello, we have a current bug report to correct the documentation because we are aware that there are several places in the Help where we mention features that are not available in the product (such as Analyze Tables or Check Tables). Toad for Data Analysis is an analyst tool, not a DBA tool, and so for simplicity’s sake some of the functionality present in our DBA Toad products is not present in Toad for Data Analysis. However we are always looking for customer feedback to see how picture are using the product.
If you come across some other features (aside from Analyze Table) that you would like to see added to the product, please let us know.
Closing without any warning or prompt to save files would definitely be a bug. I don’t recall anyone else reporting it. Where all the open windows connected to the same Oracle database? How long had the application been open? Do you remember what action you took just prior to the application closing?
Another question, related to the issue of Toad just closing while you are using it - are you running Toad for Data Analysis 1.1.0.328? This is the latest version available and we recommend upgrading because it has some bug fixes (that may or may not solve your problem.)
Also, could you please send us a support bundle? (Choose the Support Bundle option in the Help Menu)
Thank you.
As you just mentioned what feature would I like to have…
I really, really miss the autosave feature for editor. I often write comments with my SQLs, and if something happens and you don’t manage to save your work - everything is lost. I like ‘recall sql’ feature though. But it doesn’t work with SQLs that weren’t run and comments.
When my TOAD closed, I was connected to two Oracle databases and application was opened for aprox. 10 hrs. I wasn’t doing anything. A query that I run was complete - while it was running I was doing something else in some other application. Then I clicked back to toad to go over results … I basicly just ‘alt+tab’-ed back, been there, wanted to save stuff I had in my editor, so I think I hit ‘ctrl+s’ and it vanished. Or at least I wanted to hit ctrl+s.
That sounds like a reasonable request.
I have created Quest Internal change request 43986 to add “autosave” functionality to the editor for Toad for Data Analysis. Thank you for your feedback!
Concerning the other issue, Toad just closing on you - I will try it myself, leave some windows open for a few hours, and then switch back and try to save the editor window, to see if I have the same problem.
Thanks,
M
