One of my favorite features from Toad for MySQL is the ability to alter the background color of the Worksheet window where I'm writing a query based on my connection. In practice this means that my "dev" connection has a light green background (safe) and my production connection has a light red one (danger). This gives me a bold visual representation thats all but impossible to miss. I am unable to find this option in Toad Edge. The "Color" option appears to only change the little icon on the tab (and a couple other little places) and it's very easy to miss. Are there plans to bring this feature back?
Color for individual components such as schemas and databases, columns, data types and several other may be set in Preferences>Appearance. Preferences may be selected from Window or right-click in a Worksheet. One of those colors could be made different for different environments, dev or production. Such as, color for Comments could be differentiated. Setting background color could not blend well with the colors set in Preferences.
Thank you for your feedback and for describing your use case. I have added this request to our backlog. Could you also please post it to the Idea Pond?
Additional question - do you have any thoughts about how the current color differentiation system could be improved so the differences between connections would be more noticeable?
By “Current color differentiation system” are you referring to the subtle icon differences in the tab bar for Toad Edge?
I take it you are trying to avoid coloring the entire background, in which case perhaps you could add a background color to the tab or put a border around the entire query building window. Neither option would be as obvious as the one used in the old Toad for MySQL but I appreciate that there might be other problems with that solution.
Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t see that line until you pointed it out. Perhaps that line could be thicker, or bleed into the edge of the window. Perhaps even add color behind the line numbers and/or the light gray bar to the left of the the line numbers.
