Connections Lost

I have a user who has received a new system, thus a new install of Toad (same license as system decommissioned). Is there a file that I can get off of the old system which will contain all of the Oracle Database Login information that they had on the old system?

Thanks,
Suzanne.

Hey Suzanne,

If you’re using Toad 10, one way you can do it is by copying the 9.7 files
from the old system onto a thumb drive. If the old system has Toad 9.7, this
folder should be located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for
Oracle\9.7

If you were using Toad 9.6, most likely the location will be:

C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle 9.6

When you start Toad for the first time on the new system, it will ask you to
copy your settings from a previous version. Since you don’t have a
previous version installed on the new system, there will be nothing in the
drop-down box; however, you can select this folder using the ellipses button
next to the drop-down. This will automatically copy your settings, including
your connections and connection passwords (if you save them).

If you’re using Toad 9.7 or below, you can simply copy the CONNECTIONS.INI
file from the User Files folder on the old system. This will contain the
previous database connections that system had. (You can do this with Toad 10 as
well, but using the migration wizard will copy over all your old settings
– not just the connections from the old system).

You can copy over connections.ini from the user files folder. That will get the
user and database names, but passwords are not transferrable from one system to
another.

Actually depending on the toad version – the passwords MAY be
transferable. We used to tie the password encryption to the hardware – but
that was changed to the login account so that people could do this type of copy.
So answer really depends on toad version ….

Yes it does. Look in options -> General -> Application Data Directory to see
what folder it is in.
