Got TOAD unicode setup guide?

#1

Has anybody done a TOAD unicode setup guide?

There are so many places where fonts can be specified, and there may be a place
to specify font substitution but if there is, I’ve never found it.

What I’d like to see us a set of instructions that, if followed, would
result in an optimal TOAD unicode setup, including which fonts to use where.

Any thoughts?

Mike

Hi Mike,

We have a guide that covers Unicode concepts and Windows/Oracle language
settings. It doesn’t have much specific information on setting up Toad, but I’m
not sure that Toad really needs special setup instructions. If anyone knows
otherwise, I’ll be happy to update the guide.

I haven’t received feedback on this guide yet, so if you have feedback please
email me directly at mnikdel at quest dot com.

Thanks,

Melanie

Hi Mike-

Melanie is sending the link to her Unicode guide, but as far as Fonts, that’s a
bit of a different issue. There really isn’t any recommended setup, it depends
on the country, locale, the fonts you have installed - a wide variety of things.
I would simply start by setting your Grid fonts to one which supports the
characters you need. Some font names have ‘unicode’ in the name itself, others
do not. So it’s trial and error regarding which font you like and which supports
the characters you require. I assume you’re speaking about Unicode data in your
databases here, which speaks primarily to setting grid fonts, and not the
application font itself, which is a localization issue, not data.
