How to set Toad 3.6 as default program for .SQL Files

I had this problem with 3.5, but it does not appear to be fixed with 3.6. On my SQL files, I right click - open with - browse to my Program Files (x86) - Dell - Toad Data Point 3.6 - toad.exe to set this program as my default program for .SQL files. Each time I do this it does not list toad.exe as an option within the open with folder, so instead I end up having to go with note pad. How can I fix this? Toad 3.5 is uninstalled except for the SQLLIB files in the program files folder, but I’m thinking this should be easy. If I pick any other programs on my computer (SQL Server Studio, Oracle Developer, etc) I’m able to set these as the default programs with no issues.

If you don’t see TDP in the list then choose the section that says Other. If it still is not there then browse to the TDP exe. You can also set the extension in the installer.

Thanks Debbie. I am actually able to navigate to the .exe file, the issue is that it doesn’t seem to take. Almost like windows is ignoring my command. I had this same issue with 3.5.

There are 2 ways to associate the .sql file with Toad.

During install, you can check the .sql box in register file extensions page.

If you already installed Toad, go to options page and check the associated box in extensions page

Hope they help.

Thanks!

I ended up having to have my IT team uninstall the program all together, and then reinstall it and select the file extensions as are shown in the first screen shot. Thank you for the response. Ended up being option 1, just in a round about way.
