I already have Toad 10.1.1.8 installed and want to install Toad 10.5. I
have downloaded the commercial toad 10.5 executable. Can I install Toad
10.5 into the same directory that Toad 10.1.1.8 was installed or does it
have to be in a totally different directory?
No, do not install Toad 10.5 into the same directory as a previous version. This will confuse the MSI database. Toad is designed to run as a side-by-side program, meaning each version of Toad is unique and there are no upgrades as far as MSI is concerned. We do the upgrade stuff on our end when you first launch Toad.
what does “we do the upgrade stuff on our end” mean? can you point to an upgrade document that describes the process and what i will lose in terms of settings during an upgrade.
When you first run Toad, it will ask you to migrate your settings from a
previous installation. All you need to do is select the previous version from
the drop-down list and your settings will be copied over to the new
installation. After that happens, and you’ve verified all your settings
are there, you should be able to uninstall the previous version of Toad.
Brad,
Thank you for verifying this for me. So once I install TOAD version
10.5, migrate my settings, and verify the settings are correct. I can
uninstall the previous versions of Toad. Is this correct? Thanks again
for your help.
