Good day all,
Not sure if this is the right place or not for licensing questions.
I have been in a long approval process for 2024 R2.
I have a few questions.
Is quest going to end non-Subscription licensing in the future? In the following link, the word "Legacy" in its context tends to mean its going to be retired.
"Toad for Oracle non-Subscription: Toad for Oracle's legacy licensing model."
Toad for Oracle 2024 R2 Common Documents - Release Notes
If quest is going to end it then the next question comes into play.
Due to policies we are not allowed connections to external servers.
Will there be a way to disable Toad for Oracle reaching back to the quest server?
does this setting disable all Toads requests to reach back to quest servers?
InternetAccess=0
When reading the difference in the two, subscription vs non subscription it doesn't seem like a big difference. I see the access to quest resources but does the Note mean AI Explain is only available through subscription licensing or is it available on non-subscription just disabled?
Thanks
Dave
Google's definition of "legacy" seems to fit this scenario perfectly... "denoting or relating to software or hardware that has been superseded but is difficult to replace because of its wide use."
I wouldn't worry about the offline/non-Subscription license going away any time soon.
Toad for Oracle Subscription requires internet access. Once you login and your licenses have been obtained, Toad will continue to work in a licensed state for a period of days (grace period) if internet connectivity to required servers is unavailable. Eventually Toad will need to reach out to the servers to refresh your license(s) and you will be unable to use Toad until it has done so.
Toad's internet access option only affects nonessential requests. Essential traffic and any features invoked by the user (FTP, etc.) are unaffected. Subscription licensing is essential traffic.
AI features are only available in Subscription at this time.

cool thanks for this information. Good to hear non-subscription wont go away anytime soon. I was advised to begin researching other products if subscription based is the only way. I will not, i enjoy toad features and its support team lol.
This was the concerns with the subscription based licensing.
"We were unable to concur with the requested "Toad for Oracle DBA Plus" subscription-based edition due to concerns involving external connectivity to a Quest server –required for license management (involved user logins, potential PII, OPSEC concerns)."
I assume AI Explain can be disable and requires a subscription, correct? Quest's isn't giving that away for free .
Thanks again
Dave
AI features are currently restricted to Toad for Oracle Subscription users with a suitable license.
There is an option (checkbox) in Toad's Options to allow AI features. The checkbox is enabled by default and only seen in Toad Subscription version. Also, you must agree to the Terms of Use prior to using AI features.
If AI features become part of offline licensing at any point, you will be able to disable it. Your company can also block the host if they'd like a stronger approach.
