Toad perpetual license is indeed perpetual - issue is solved!

Dear Community,

I just find out that Quest did just the same as Adobe and basically cancel your perpetual license once you need to move Toad to a new device after support period. :frowning:
Right here Benefits of Renewing Support and confirmed by a rep that you have to purchase support if you want to move your license from broken device to a new one.

I own over the years 3 perpetual licenses, purchasing a new one every time I was ready, had enough money and needed a new features. Paying from my own packet $2000+ always thinking that developers deserve to be paid for the product and pirating is NOT ok.

But here we go: A betrayal same as Adobe did and many others!

Can someone explain me how this is fair and human to spit in your customers :frowning: Customers who give you their money and treating you with respect. Looks like these customers do not deserve any respect from Quest...

Perpetual licenses of Toad for Oracle are not tied to machines. Maybe they are for some other Quest product, I don't know.

I don't think you'll have any problem installing Toad on the new device.

Answer from the rep:
Hello,
You can transfer your licenses from one machine that is part of our support and maintenance contract.
Perpetual license customers will continue to be able to use the then-current version of their licensed software. However without a current maintenance contract in place, you will not have access to technical support, you will not be able to download the latest version of patches and fixes from our support site, you will not be able to transfer the license to another host/machine, you will not be able to download for reinstall purposes and you will not be able to request new product keys.
Thanks,

Yeah it seems like that info does not apply to Toad, since Toad licenses are not tied to your machine.

Do you still have the installer file and your license key?

We had a similar conversation in August 2021. Quest perpetual license is indeed perpetual - issue is solved!

Hi John,
We indeed had this conversation couple of years ago. I forgot.

Not sure this is a Rep fault as they redirect to the info on your site.

Last paragraph is mentioning this exact situation.

I am very particular regarding perpetual as I am being old school and have a particular dislike with subscriptions, sorry about that.
Please check, maybe it worth changing the wording on that webpage.

Thank you for confirming again that you stick to your word, unlike many companies in our days (I just lost 2 Adobe pro licenses, Adobe is the worst)

I will be changing the post to reflect the situation.

I'm also old school and no fan of subscriptions.

That webpage may apply to other products at Quest.

Does Quest even offer perpetual licenses for Toad anymore?

Cheers,
Russ

Yes it does, at list it was in 2024.
You have to contact the Rep to send you a quote...

Well, I am curious about the price.

I just love it when the bosses come down and ask, "Why are we spending thousands for a product that we could get completely free?" They really don't like spending thousands a year for "what they could get free".

Anyway, what does that perp license get these days? Fully upgradable for one year, and usable perpetually after that without upgrades. That is it if I remember correctly.

Cheers,
Russ

It depends on what modules you include, mine was around 4k

I think this is referring to downloading the latest and greatest version of Toad which you only have access to if you are on maintenance. If you have the old installer that you originally used - for that older version of Toad - then you can install that on any machine to use with your license.

However, if you no longer have that old installer saved anywhere you can reach out to me directly ay julie.hyman@quest.com and I can see if I can help.
