MariaDB, MySQL version support

Is Toad Data Point ever going to become more current in its support for these platforms?

Current MariaDB supported version is 10.3.2, which is 8 years old.

Current MySQL supported version is 8.0, which is 7 years old.

I don’t understand why DP is so far behind. When can we expect an upgrade to something less than a couple of years old?

Hi CF,

Thanks a lot for your post and for raising this concern. You’re right that the currently listed supported versions may look a bit behind. One of the main reasons is that Toad Data Point is a multi-platform product, which means we need to balance validation and documentation across numerous databases - not all of which are actively used by customers. Because of that, it’s not realistic to always certify against the very latest version of every platform.

That said, in practice Toad Data Point often works with newer versions than those listed in the documentation. For example, MariaDB 10.7 and MySQL 8.1 can already be used, but since these versions haven’t gone through full testing, we can’t claim official support or guarantee full coverage. This is why you don’t see them listed in the documentation.

If you’re working with newer versions, I’d encourage you to give them a try - many customers do this successfully. The good news is that going forward, we’re improving our processes so we can update components and validate newer versions much faster, prioritizing the most widely used platforms first.
