ORA-02005: implicit (-1) length not valid for this bind or define datatype

Hi developers,

with TOAD 10.1 I get ORA-02005 whenever I go to the data tab in the schema browser. The error is displayed one time, afterwards the data grid works as expected.
The error occurs every time when data for the table are fetched the first time and only with tables, that have foreign key constraints defined.
When I disable the FK constraint same behaviour occurs.
When I drop the FK constraint, data are displayed happily without any errors.
Has anybody experienced similar behaviour in TOAD 10.1.1.8 ?

Database is 9.2.0.4.0 on Linux
Same behaviour with Oracle XE on Windows XP
Windows client is 9i

kind regards

Do you have the toad option set to create a drop-down in data grids for foreign
key values? That might be an aspect dev’s will need to know ….

You can do any of the following to prevent the error

Yes - #3 was what I was asking for his setting – because that seemed like
the likely candidate J

Yes, I am certain that is the problem. Just wanted him to be aware of the other
ways to prevent the error.

Thank you !

In the meantime - finally - we did the migration to 11gR2 (we had a holy day on thursday), I also downloaded the instant client from otn, so everything concerning TOAD is ok for now.
A few other construction sites were opened by this migration task btw., but nothing Quest or TOAD related…

best regards
Hans

Hello,

I just upgraded to Toad 12.6.0.53 and now receive this same error everytime I go to the Data tab in the Schema Browser.

What is the Toad Option setting that removes this error message?

Respectfully,

Leon

Hello,

Never mind, I found the setting.

For the record, to disable this error message go to:

Options > Schema Browser > Data Tab.

Uncheck the option “Enable value lookup for foreign key constraints”.

Respectfully,

Leon

This thread is really old and I’m not this is the same thing, but try going to Options -> Schema Browser -> Data Tab, and uncheck “Enabled value Lookup for Foreign Key Constraints”.

If that fixes the problem, let me know. I am not able to reproduce this error in 12.6.

John,

That was it, thanks. I stumbled across the answer myself just before your email and posted it.

I don’t get this error in 12.6. If it’s still happening, I’d really like to get it fixed. Will you turn on Spool SQL and send me the output? From the main menu, go to Database -> Spool SQL -> Spool to Screen, then turn the option back on and make the error happen, and post the SQL output here or email it to me directly: john.dorlon@quest.com
