This is the third time in the last one week I get an out of memory exception during an object describe. There is no el file generated and Toad is unusable after this error: out of memory errors for SB object, Editor unable to handle the opened tabs, etc.
Have you seen this kind of error during your interal test? Release of 12.8GA is coming shortly and I would appreciate we’ll be able to track down this issue.
No, I’ve never experienced or heard of this one. Describe windows really don’t use that much memory. Is it possible that you were really almost out of memory when you did that? I suspect the problem has more to do with what you did before opening the describe window.
If you are running 32 bit Toad, I wouldn’t recommend pushing it much over 1Gb memory use. With 64 bit, you can use as much memory as your machine has available.
No, all of used memory was 1,7 GB, free memory was 1 GB. I tried to redescribe the object again after the error but the error message remained the same.
I was editing some packages in the Editor (about 8-12 packages was opened) and a tried the description function from there. Other window types that were opened at the same time: Schema Browser, Master-Detail Browser and maybe an Object Search.
Yes, I’m running 32 bit Windows7, but I can’t manage the used memory size of Toad. If you open a couple of source code in the Editor and at least one SB the average memory usage can be around 600MB.
Sounds like you are pushing the limits of 32 bit memory limits. When I am using 32 bit Toad, and I open large trace files in the Trace File Browser, or scroll down in a very large dataset, somewhere between 1.5 Gb and 1.7 Gb is about where it gives the “out of memory” message. It doesn’t mean that your machine is out of memory. It means that the 32 bit app can’t access any more memory. If you need to have that much stuff open in Toad, you should switch to 64 bit and maybe also a machine with more memory.
How are your Ctrl+Click options set in Options|Editor|Code Assist? Do you have the Ctrl+Click jumps to objects option checked? If so you can uncheck that and see if it makes any difference.
