Something you probably cannot do

Hey John,

I have an issue with Toad that is not Toad’s problem specifically but rather the Windows accessibility settings that affect Toad. As I have mentioned before, this old man is losing his eyesight, and I have had to make many changes in Windows and apps, including Toad, to make things more usable. The problem is that the AWS templates that control our Windows configs do not save all relevant accessibility settings across sessions. Moreover, some of my apps do not play nice with some of these settings.

Now, I can do things in Toad to make some things larger such as fonts and what not in certain places but the main app menu does not have a font setting that I can find. As it stands now, I can only make the menu font larger with the following Windows setting:

The problem I have with this setting is two-fold. Some legacy apps that I use do not play nice if this is any larger than 100%. Moreover, this is one of the settings that the VDI template resets across sessions so that I have to change it in each new session, along with other things too.

Now, if there was a way to control the size of the font of Toad’s main app menu in spite of the above setting, it would be very helpful.

I bought a huge monitor just for the purpose of making things bigger, but Windows conspires with the admins to make everything microscopic instead. Apps that have their own accessibility controls do better and don’t require the above setting. If Toad could do so, it would be quite helpful.

But, I am probably the only person in the world that has this particular situation so that it might not be worthwhile. In any event, I thought I would mention it.

Cheers,
Russ

Here's what I would suggest:

First, put that setting in your screen shot back to 100.

Then right-click on the windows desktop, choose "Display settings", then increase the Scale setting to make everything bigger. The latest version of Toad will place nice with this setting. All fonts, icons...everything will scale up.

To answer your question more directly though - there is no setting in Toad that will make the main menu font size larger. We could probably add that, but wouldn't you want font size larger everywhere? I guess some places like grids and editor have their own settings...

I like those places in Toad and many apps where I can just use the mouse scroll button to resize like in editor windows, but many apps only have that in editor windows. MobaXterm, for example, allows CTRL+scroll to resize a session screen, but the stuff it places in the left pane like session lists and file system trees do not resize that way. Basically, it is only editor windows. Even sophisticated apps like Visual Studio Code exhibit this behavior.

One issue I have is that I have to share my screen in meetings where I need to have things at a different size for the duration of the meeting. I did try that screen scaling option you mentioned, but it is worse with some apps than the other.

I am not asking you to change Toad for this issue because it is probably not a small change, and very few people would have a use case like mine.

Cheers,
Russ

It would actually be a very easy change to make the main menu font size configurable.

I can add that if it will help you.

It would be nice if it is not a difficult change.

Russ
