Never seen this before, so really strange...
Just curious...
- What version of Toad are you running?
- What is your screen resolution and font scaling settings?
- It appears that you have customized your toolbars and menus. What happens if you right-click on the menu or toolbar space and choose "Restore Toolbar Defaults?"
Anyone else may have seen this or similar issue?
I have seen the same problem. I have also customized my toolbar, FWIW. I am running the latest version of Toad.
I am running Toad version17.1.717.3711, and I have three screens at 3 different resolutions, 1 at 2560 x 1440, 1 at 2376 X 1824 and one at 3840x 2160.
I have had this situation a few times. But I cannot really tie down the exact cause. But I think it happens where Toad shows a dialogue box in connection with an error I do have custom toolbar setting, and restarting Toad seems to solve the problem
I'm occasionally having the same issue.
- No toolbar customization!
- As far as I remember: doesn't happen at work: 3 displays, all 1920x1080, of which one 125% scaling
- Occasionally happens at home; 3 displays: 1920x1080@125%, 2560x1440, 1024x1280
- Doesn't happen often enough to remember possible cause, e.g. after waking up at home from hibernation after a day in the office?
As far as I know, this only happens after connection is lost, and minimizing/restoring Toad will fix it. We have not been able to reproduce this consistently, so have been unable to try to find a solution for it.
Also see https://forums.toadworld.com/t/regression-bug-in-toad-15-1-menu/54808?u=john.ashley. I was able to reproduce by disconnecting my session using SYS, then return to the session window I had blasted.
I occasionally have this problem too. So far it has only occurred on an external monitor.
Ah - interesting.
What is the resolution and scaling of that display?
As I hadn't connected my external monitor (I was working outside in the garden in a deckchair ), I quickly went into my home office and plugged in the external monitor.
The result is as follows:
I have Windows running in a VM under Mac OS and when the external display is connected, the window (the Space) is automatically moved there. This seems to cause the problem.
The resolution is currently 5120 x 2880 and the scaling is 450%.
@john.ashley Thanks for your reports too. I have tried to reproduce it this way but haven't succeeded.
Hi I assume thay you know that there is another thread with this issue: Regression Bug in TOAD 15.1 Menu - Toad for Oracle - Toad World® Forums
Hi Tim,
Thanks. Yes, I've seen that one.

This has been a "come-and-go" problem in Toad through the years, but I have not seen it in a while.
Cheers,
Russ
Well, the mystery lives on...
I tried this on my laptop. I don't have the exact same scenario, but....
It has 2 displays, windows set to "Display #2 only"
Built in display is 3920x2400, scaled to 250%
External display is 1920x1080, scaled to 100%
I was able to plug-in and unplug, and my desktop jumped from one display to the other, but the toolbars never reduced to the first letter.
