Spool SQL

It would be so nice if when you spool sql to the screen if the statements were ended with semicolons and the session a, timestamp and bind variable lines were prefixed with two dashes. That way when I spool the SQL and then put it in the editor, I can modify and run the statements I’m looking at without having to do that myself.

I’ve been thinking this for a while and figured it was time to make it a request.

Blessings,

Phyllis

Hi!

I would 2nd this request! And add 3 related ideas:

Idea 1 – list all substitution variables (& and &&) as well as bind variables as comment entries

Idea 2 – list connection information (user@database) as comment entry

Idea 3 – the ability to “spool” output to a new (or existing) edit window so that we don’t have to copy and paste from the output window to an edit window. Oracle’s SQLDeveloper has a capability like this.

We do a lot of SQL that generates SQL statements to be executed. These items would make doing that much simpler and quicker.

Thanks for your consideration of all of these suggestions!

It would be even better if you use proper communication channel for that:

Sorry! Forgot that is the way to do this now. Which is sad considering how long the Idea Pond has been around.

I have submitted this properly this time.

I like this idea. Next beta will have:

  1. Session and timestamp info as a comment

  2. A button to copy all/selected/last sql statement to the editor

  3. A checkbox to substitute binds back into the SQL statement. Substitution variables are already substituted by this point, so I can’t make an option to not substitute them.

Thanks John! I know I'll use this.
