Problem Statement:
Spotlight is a wonderful tool for identifying problems in an oracle database system, unless oracle is not responsive then spotlight is also unresponsive.
Solution:
Detect when oracle is unresponsive and change modes. Maybe leave one thread out to get timeouts until the database returns. Use other threads to look at logs and disk or asm sizes and os processes just like a DBA should do to find the problem and then summarize and show relevant information that may help to identify the problem. Maybe even go as far as suggest a solution and offer to do it.
You could call this the Crash Recovery Feature.
