Toad will not minimize

Hi,

Using Toad for Oracle Xpert 12.1.0.22. It will not minimize. Any ideas?

Thanks, Mike

I've seen this happen before a few times and have not been able to figure out what causes it. Closing and re-opening Toad is the only way I know to work-around
it.

I have 12.6.0.40 and just saw this yesterday. I noticed that Alt-Tab or Window-Tab seemed to show not the normal Toad screen but a dialog box, probably “Computer
has just awakened from hibernation, should I reconnect?”. I presumed that Toad wouldn’t minimize because that dialog box was up (somewhere), but I could never actually see the dialog box to click Cancel.

Does that help, Brad?

Yes, I've noticed this happening after an unexpected error or exception, maybe a window is getting stuck behind Toad MDI in this case.

As usual with the buggiest piece of software in the world, this still happens more than 6 years after the last comment.

Even the "SKIPS THESE TIPS" on the ugly layer when one connects for the 1st time to this forum doesn't work.

Pepei,

We've fixed a lot of bugs in the last 6 years, and we have worked on this one too.

Please be specific about the problem that you are having, tell us what Toad version you are using, and maybe provide a screen shot or two and we'll do our best to help you.

Hello,
What happens is an error message pops up but at the same time toad maybe tries a reconnect and puts the main screen out front.

Then there is no way to get to it, so you have to use task manager to kill it.

thats the last thing toad spit out and no matter where i click it just bongs at me, technical term

All versions of toad I have used has done this from 13 up to 16.3 (current).
Sometimes I have been able to use the windows key to get main toad to move and get to the error but today wont do anything. The sqlplus session I called from toad still worked though.

Thanks
Dave

ok so this just worked.
Killed everything in the task manager associated with toad except for the main and I guess editor main

then i right clicked on the SUPP in task manager and clicked minimize and it left the error up. Now I have auto reconnect on, I feel like that is the only error that I have ever got stuck in the back. Not connect or something along those lines

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info. I'll try to reproduce that. Do you remember what Toad was trying to do when the error occurred? (where you clicked, etc).

That's a good tip about minimizing the error from the sub-node of task manager like that. I see you can also do that from the windows task bar.

If you hover over the doubled task bar button, then the preview appears. Then you can right-click on the popup that is not in the foreground and choose "Close"

I think I was clicking on the tablespace explorer, but i can reproduce the error by disconnecting from vpn but not always the issue, I feel like the stars align when the issue happens. So I noticed that this issue doesnt generate another preview window.

and as I was posting that, I reconnected to VPN and toad is going crazy, I am assume its trying to reconnect but not connecting. Its got toad all locked and keeps not responding.

I have all the actions its doing but it would be too much info to remove. You want me to create a support ticket and then share it or just caulk this up to an anomaly?

It's up to you if you want to create a support case for it. The main difference if you create it vs if you don't are the documentation of the problem, and support following up with me and you until the problem is resolved.

I am in middle of something now and haven't tested it yet, but will soon. So, correct me If I am wrong but the basic steps to reproduce the problem are:

  1. make a connection that requires VPN
  2. Close the VPN
  3. Do something in Toad that will cause a SQL to run (like open Administer -> Tablespaces from the main menu)
  4. Lost connection dialog appears. Click "Reconnect".
  5. problem doesn't happen every time, but sometimes a dialog goes behind Toad so you can't minimize Toad.

Is that right?

I'd appreciate any more details you can provide. (Do you have only one connection or more than one, any steps I left out or got wrong, etc).

Thanks.

correct and the only reason why i did the vpn disconnect was because I know it would force the error instead of waiting for a timeout, so I dont think VPN is the issue, it just gives me an ip i can use to connect. Firewall is restricted by IP.

I just want to be able to provide you with as much information as i can and to remove IP's and schema name would be annoying lol.

in task manager toad is looping through these. they will all go away then come back.

Whats interesting is I have a lot of connections to different instance but all the errors are from 1 PDB.

here is a trace, thats what it seems to be stuck on.

Ill get back to this and if you need more info let me know

Interesting. The only reason Toad should be looking at Unified Audit table would be if you had it selected in the Schema Browser. If we are trying to query it, you should be able to see that in Spool SQL.

I couldnt recover the that toad, windows ended up forcing it closed so spool was lost, unless its saved somewhere Im unaware of.

I was doing a lot of different things but the session that was looping the connect shouldnt have been querying the unified audit trail
