10.1.1.8 Buggy?

#1

Is anyone else having issues with 10.1.1.8?
Can’t remember what version I was on previously, but I believe
it was a 9.X version. I am finding all kinds of issues running
10.1.1.8. An example is, when hitting F4 to describe a table sometimes it works correctly, but most of the time the column names have funky characters include at the end of them and as a result I can not change to the Data tab because the column names are wrong. Anyone else experience that? I have other issues two, but that one drives me crazy and slows down my productivity.

I have changed the subject to more clearly specify the problem.

We have had several people upgrading to Toad 10.1 and only one person has that F4 issue.

I don’t know if it is a bad upgrade (some files got corrupted) or if it is a font issue or if it is a Monitor resolution issue.

I reported it and have received some suggestions to try from John. I have not tried them yet since my main job is not IT support and the person whose problem it is, is not a good software install problems solver.

Here is what I have been asked to try.

My Question

Should I rename it [user files folder] and try seeing if then toad will migrate his user settings from 9.1?

We might need a little more info.

What Oracle Client are you using?
What version is your Oracle DB?
Is your database using a Unicode character set?

Initial thoughts is that you are having an issue with your oracle client being a
lower version then your DB version or you may not have Unicode set up correctly
on your PC.

I had exactly the same problem - no problems up to 9.7 then 10.x showed Chinese characters in the Describe windows after a few hours/days.
Had an old Oracle client 9.2 installed.
Replaced it to Oracle client 11gr2 and had no problems for a week now!
Thanx

Morning all,

Replaced it to Oracle client 11gr2 and had no problems for a
week now!

This might be due to the fact that Oracle introduced a large number of
UTF8 bugs at 9.2 OCI. The updated client has probably fixed most/all of
them.

Cheers,
