Compile with Debug not working as expected in 12.0.1.2

I’m not sure why but when I right click on a package and left on compile, it appears to compile correctly.

However the icon for the package appears as a ‘Valid Object Compiled Without Debug’ instead of the ‘Package - Spec and Body Compiled with Debug’.

I have checked the settings that the 'Default to “Compile with Debug” ’ is ticked.

Can anyone help here?

Thanks.

I tried that and it seems to be working fine for me.

If you turn on spool SQL (Main Menu -> Database -> Spool SQL -> Spool to Screen), you can see what Toad is doing.

Are we compiling with debug?

You should see something like this…

ALTER PACKAGE “SCHEMA”.“PACKAGE” COMPILE DEBUG SPECIFICATION

Possibly followed by a query and then

ALTER PACKAGE " SCHEMA"." PACKAGE" COMPILE DEBUG BODY

Followed by more queries.

You might also want to go into the SB-packages filter and make sure that the “Skip check for debug info” is not checked. If it is checked, that would explain
it. This check is optional because it is sometimes slow.

Hi John,

I ran the Spool SQL option and indeed it does NOT have the DEBUG between COMPILE SPECIFICATION or COMPILE BODY.

I also checked the SB packages filter and “Skip check for debug info” is not checked.

Does anybody have any other options here as this is still not working for me for some reason.

Thanks…

Is the debug icon on your main toolbar in the “down” position?

Hmm, my image came out really tiny. I’m trying again.

I was able to resize the image – looks to me like the grants issue I emailed a response already and sent link on the blog explaining ….

OK. If so, then the icon I circled in my screenshot will be disabled for him.

It was not greyed out – just appeared inactive (i.e. pressing it did nothing). So maybe not the grants issue. Please confirm that schema was granted debug session
so we can eliminate that as possible issue.

Hi John / Bert,

I contacted one of our DBA’s and he confirmed that the DEBUG CONNECT SESSION is not assigned on our production server which is where I was trying to run this.

Apparently it can be potentially resource intensive which he doesn’t we should be doing on the production server.

Although not the answer I was hoping for it is certainly the answer as to why I can’t get it to work. Certainly not a TOAD issue.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the follow-up. It always good to know what happened.

Just get into the same problem,

i gave the user grant debug any procedure and debug connect session in the Dev environnement, but still the button is grayed out.

Please let’s know if it is a bug of Toad 12,

I have debug successfully in Toad 12 without any problems (not against Oracle 12.x database, but only 11.x ones).

Here is small info what I always do (when debug is in question):

1.) Grant select on dba_source to whatever role (user doesn’t need to be granted select any dictionary)
2.) Grant debug on individual package or grant debug all procedures to whatever role
2.) Ensure the following is checked Tools -> Preferences -> Oracle -> Options -> Use DBA Views when available

maybe this helps

To compile instrumented code using the command line. Set a conditional compiler-switch on the command line. The compiler will include trace or debug code in the executable.
