Connecting TOAD to remote database over SSH

I am having problems connecting TOAD to a Remote customer database using SSH Tunnel thru “SecureLink” .

Has anyone had any luck doing this?

I keep getting “time Out” error when trying to connect.

Edit May 13, 2024: The info below applies to Toad version 16.3 and older. Starting in Toad 17.0, Toad has SSH support built in.

I am not sure how SecureLink would fit into the equation, but to connect via SSH, you need to open a tunnel. There are steps on how to do that here:

Yes I saw this article and it still doesn’t work.

There seems to be a time out on the other end of the tunnel when trying to connect.

I also and using Windows 10, so not sure what the problem is.

I found the article John referred to at https://blog.toadworld.com/toad-for-oracle-how-to-use-toad-over-an-ssh-tunnel instead.

It looks like community.toadworld.com has vanished.

I know it’s probably of no use now either, but from what I’ve found out SecureLink only allows you to do certain things, so if you have not had an option configured at the SecureLink end of things, you won’t be able to do it - even with an SSH tunnel.

I have written a document of my own - for future reference - which discusses how to do the SSH Tunnelling thing with:

  • Putty
  • MobaXterm
  • BitVise
