Toad for oracle 15.1.113.1379 tnsnames editor not working

Starting from version 15.1.113.1379 of toad for Oracle tnsnames editor stopped working.
Opening any file does not show anything.
Am I the only one with this issue?

Thanks!

Diego

Using the same build, and the TNS editor works nicely. Are you getting any error messages? Is the panel perhaps hidden behind another app/window? (have seen that happen a few times)

@dba.csia, My guess is that Toad can't parse your tnsnames.ora file for some reason. Maybe it has an error in it somewhere or some syntax that Toad doesn't understand.

Can you try it with a small file? Then if that works, try to isolate whatever is in your tnsnames.ora that causes Toad to not show anything? If so, let us know and we'll fix it.

Thanks

Any file opened is displayed like this:

Old version of toad work perfectly with any tnsnames.

Started with an empty file, added a new service and resulted in an error:

I think this version is in somewhere buggy with editors/panel, as sqlrecall that I solved with another workaround posted in this forum
Am I the only one?
Thanks for any suggestion!

Diego

Hi Diego,

The access violation in your 2nd screenshot is fixed in the beta (available here now) and 16.0 (available here April 26th)

I just opened a tnsnames.ora using version 15.1 and it is working OK for me. I'll be happy to try it with your tnsnames.ora (or even a small one that reproduces the problem, feel free to put in fake service names, etc) if you send it to me: john.dorlon@quest.com

Any tnsnames is displayed as empty:
for example this simple one was created by toad 15.0 and is empty on 15.1...

Net_Service_Name.Untitled =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = prova)
(PORT = 1521)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = prova)
)
)

I'm definitely not seeing that problem. I wonder if it's really opening the file that it shows it's opening. Do you have more than one tnsnames.ora file on your PC? Maybe it is opening one for a different oracle client.

What happens if you click the 2nd toolbar button, and browse to your tnsnames.ora file manually?

I just saved that info you gave to c:\temp\tnsnames.ora and was able to open it.

Same situation for all files, from simple to very complex and
in different places (oracle home 12, oracle home 19, Desktop)
I can share my screen if you would.

Thanks Diego

Let me look at the code a bit first and see if I can figure out what might cause this. I don't mind sharing screens but not sure what else to suggest at this point.

It's weird that you don't have this area that I circled in blue. What do you see if you click the + to create a new tab?

Incase this happens to someone else, this will solve it:

  1. Close Toad
  2. Find this folder in windows explorer:
    C:\Users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\15.1\User Files\GUISettings\
  3. Delete/rename TOAD_GUI2.INI if it exists (Note there is also a TOAD_GUI.INI. Leave that one alone)
  4. Try TNSNames editor again
