What's with everyone today, all so whingy and uppity!
Sunspots? Yeah, gotta be -- full moon was last week. Molds and pollen
counts are high around here. That makes me cranky, but (hopefully) neither
whiny nor whingy.
Bear in mind that your browser may cache things for a fairly long period
of time. Also bear I mind that clearing your browser cache, especially
with IE, may not actually do what it says it has done.
Let's also not forget the dreaded proxy caching. If using a proxy, they
often utilize their own caching, which can only be managed by the proxy
owner/admin.
IE8: Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings
FF4: Tools->Options->Advanced->Network->Connection "Settings"
Chrome: Not a fan. Google the settings.
Opera: Fan, but don't have
etc.
Has anyone tried appending a useless parameter on the URL (e.g.
"?nocache=42"), like back in the good ol' days?
Thankfully my employer values me and (a few of) my opinions and has
purchased Toad licenses for me and my devs.

Rich,
Has anyone tried appending a useless parameter on the URL (e.g.
"?nocache=42"), like back in the good ol' days?
Mark has been using a utility I wrote (with help from google!) to append
a randomly generated parameter to the end of the download link on
http://toadfororacle.com/beta.jspa for a while. It "just" works. Have a
look at the source for the page and feel free to "steal" my code.
The new download site has apop-up "poll" which has to be submitted
before you get to the download link. It seems that the poll can't be
"hacked" to add in my code. So, it looks like it's not possible to add
on a useless parameter.
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamT]

Hi, I’m having this problem today when I re-installed the freeware, never had issue in the past. I then found this thread on the forum. I’ve cleared my cache but have trouble to download the update. I received this error message when download update. Toad has encountered an unexpected error. Detail: Toad cannot access necessary installation files. Can someone help me with this please? Based on what I’ve read so far, I need to download the update and rename the toadfreeware.exe to toad.exe to fix the expired issue.
Thanks.

Click the second button which says "Download Update":
This downloads the Toad executable, which is named "ToadFreeware.exe."
Copy ToadFreeware.exe into your Toad Freeware installation directory, for
example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle 10.6 Freeware
Copy and paste the link to brower and click on the download update still received the same error message. I’m stuck on step 2. Any idea why I’m getthing this message and how to get around it? Thanks.

You click the download update and receive and installer error message? I don't
understand.
Here are the steps. This assumes you already have an existing Freeware
installation:
Yes, I already have the freeware installed and it is on directory you mentioned. I’ve been using it for couple years and so grateful to have it. I don’t see what I’m doing wrong but I’ll check with couple IT guys in my company and see if they can follow your instruction better and I will let you know. thanks for the help.
The software keep expiring as soon as you launch after install… And yes, the cache was completely cleared…
When will this freeware be there? If no, say so!

Please check that you have follwoed the follwoing instructions:

The freeware is there, it has not expired. Your shortcuts all point at
toad.exe which has expired. The freeware is not called
ToadFreeWare.exe. You need to rename it, or edit your shortcuts.
Have fun.

I cannot type to save my life! You'd think after 25 plus years in IT,
I'd be able to type without looking at the keyboard? Not me!

Oh yes it is. For "not" read "now" - sorry.

OK, this is my first time installing the product today, and I finally got it to work, though it was very frustrating and totally unclear - but I will post for other’s benefit.
If you are installing for the first time, download the ToadforOracle106SetupFreeware.exe file (or the MSI, it really doesn’t matter), and run the installer. You will notice after installation. that if you try and run the software that it instantly fails with the expired message. You then need to download the “Upgrade”, which is just a single file named “ToadFreeware.exe”. It may seem confusing that you need to upgrade to the same version you just downloaded, but go with it.
After downloading the file named “ToadFreeware.exe”, place it in you installation folder (i.e. Quest Software\Toad for Oracle 10.6 Freeware). Then, just run the “ToadFreeware.exe” instead of the normal Toad.exe program. If you want to run via shortcut, you’ll just need to change your shortcuts to this link.
Just a heads up – this is all documented on the download web page –
under FAQ when having problems with install – which takes you to:

I too am experiencing this same problem. I have exercised all of the suggested fixes and workl-arounds and I have deleted and re-install from scratch on several occasions including removal from the registry. all to no available.
Additional suggestions are welcome.

Have you read the rest of this thread? If you had, then you would see
that there is nothing for anyone to fix for you to get the Freeware edition
of Toad to work without resorting to a system clock setting.
Have you followed the download/install procedure?
Please show your results for each step of the download/install
procedure. Be clear and concise. We should be able to be of more
assistance then.
GL!
