Does the slow startup still happen on a client workstation that has internet access? I'm guessing that you might be getting a time out because of some of the phone home stuff we do in the latest Toad versions.

I can't access the Internet because I use Toad in the office.

Same problem for me, running a 64 bit Toad 14.1.120.923.
It takes Toad 48 seconds to show the first screen.
Most of the time is spent on "initializing version engine..."
No internet connection is available on this machine.

We've decreased that timeout for Toad 15.0, which is coming out in a month or so.

Then, can't we solve this problem with the 14 version?

I don't know of a solution, sorry. Get 15.0 when it becomes available.

HI, I have similar issue from version 14 onwards. On 14.2 now. I work in Government and from behind a proxy server. The delay is always when TOAD is "checking feedback server" I have no choice but to wait for the time out. Putty, it could learn from past failures and reduce the time-out as it will never connect and we are forced to wait no matter what.

  1. If you know where your user files folder is, close Toad and skip to step 4.
    a) Toad version 16.2 or earlier, go to Options > General
    b) Toad version 16.3 or later, go to Options -> Files and Folders -> App Folders"
  2. Under “Application data directory” section, click on “Open folder”
  3. Keep this folder open in Windows Explorer and Close Toad
  4. In Windows Explorer, go into the User Files folder. Toad.ini is in there.
  5. Double-click Toad.ini to edit with Notepad.
  6. Find the [SETTINGS] section and change the values on these lines (or add them if not found):
    FeedBackOptIn=0
    InternetAccess=0
  7. Save Toad.ini and try Toad again.

I believe that should help but there will still be a delay. In version 15.0, the timeout will be reduced to 5 seconds.

Thanks John, worked a treat. Although it took a few times as toad was overwriting my changes when I closed. I realised I had to close toad before making the change for it to stick.

Yes, it's important to close Toad.exe before attempting any changes in Toad.ini, otherwise they'll get ignored and overwritten.

Upon entering the websites to phone home (whitelist), is there a manner to isolate the traffic to a specific port/process, inbound/outbound?
